Colours...

Can create a mood, they can make you happy, sad, excited, anxious, calm, they can stimulate creativity, give you space or fill it up. Colours can provoke an appetite or make one claustrophobic.

Having said that, the colours you choose for your home will have a direct impact on your daily life.

When and if you are choosing colours for resale, keep in mind what the colours will evoke from your potential buyers. Don't make it personal, think about getting the most bang for your buck !

Colours need to flow smoothly and effectively throughout the home. This includes the flooring and cabinets to lighting and accessories.

Colour is the primary link to all aspects of decorating

Painting an entire room with the colour of the year would certainly have a dramatic impact...

but accents would liven up and excite a tired room without the commitment.

Keeping a room relatively neutral, will allow you to update your accessories more often and not spend a lot of money - Honey !!

Colour & Texture
Grey is the new brown and is totally acceptable in any situation, but ...
the grey we choose is the question
Stiles on Colour
2012 colour of the year is Persimmons or Tangy Red
or Spicy Tea, Coral or Tangerine - whatever you call it it’s a pinky orangey red and it is
FANTASTIC!
Notice the different textures - the added touch of greenery - red brick with antiques are FAB !!!

A couple of simple rules I follow are ...

Black and White go with anything !!!!!

Natural stone tends to be the same in most cases and coordinates with almost anything.

Natural wood floors are tricky, be very careful when mixing neutrals like oak and taupe they usually DON’T work and take a very keen eye to make it happen.

Chandeliers belong in any room !!!

Plants - Greenery just seem to add so much to a simple room ! I like tall plants in interesting pots for a point of interest.
